If one has to trade full time, you need a daily routine.

A routine is some sort of a structure within which you need to function.

Mostly it would revolve around the markets which you trade.

According to ancient Indian Tradition a Great Yogi really gave a lot of priority to repetition.

And that too disciplined repetition.

Yogi’s would spend days in a period they called sadhana (loosely translates to intense practise). It really depended on what they were trying to achieve but say it were meditation, they would work up their meditation practise to even 18-20 hours a day, sleeping and eating very little.

And they could do this for months at a time.

They believed and utilized the potential memory of the human body cells even thousands of years ago.

This constant repetition enabled their minds and bodies to break all barriers , expand their perception and it enabled them to achieve their goals.

To truly achieve something one needs to have a fierce attitude like a conqueror.

Alexander the Great didn’t conquer the world by sitting around and not having a meticulous plan, and following through with it.

You need to have goals that have a deadline. You need a plan to meet that deadline. You need consistent action to follow that plan. This is an important recipe for success.

For a full time trader we don’t need 18 hours of meditation or a plan of world conquest, but we do have goals.

Our goals are to have consistency, to be able to follow our system with emotional self discipline.

To make our mind emotionally stable we must cultivate a very happy and stress free life for ourselves.

We cannot be at peak performance if we are stressed or depressed.

A routine doesn’t mean you need to necessarily wake up at 4 in the morning and have a cold water shower(though that is scientifically proven to really help the human body and mind), but it means your body and mind needs to fit and settle into some kind of rhythm, so that through the sheer repetition of your rhythm you are able to channelize and rationalize your thoughts and logic and implement it in the best way possible.

We don’t need to define an ideal routine as everyone is different, trading different markets and has very different rhythms.

But we will recommend 5 things that will really help you, as a trader if you include them in your everyday routine.

A strong daily routine starts with a good diet

It is a common saying, you are what you eat.

A good and balanced diet, where the meals are eaten at regular intervals is highly beneficial for the peak performance of the body and mind.

The fresher the food that you eat, the more energetic it will make you feel.

Here’s an excellent unbiased scientific paper (Do remember there’s very few of these always) supporting our thesis of a fresh food diet, written by Dr. David Katz, from Yale University’s Prevention Research Center, where he is a practicing physician and researcher.

The sea of popular diet media is the institution against which he rebels.

It’s not that nutrition science is corrupt, just that the empty promises of memetic, of-the-moment diet crazes are themselves junk food: “There have been no rigorous, long-term studies comparing contenders for best diet laurels using methodology that precludes bias and confounding. For many reasons, such studies are unlikely.”

They conclude that no diet is clearly best, but there are common elements across eating patterns that are proven to be beneficial to health: A diet of minimally processed foods close to nature, predominantly plants, is decisively associated with health promotion and disease prevention.”

Among the salient points of proven health benefits the researchers note, nutritionally-replete plant-based diets are supported by a wide array of favorable health outcomes, including fewer cancers and less heart disease.

These diets ideally included not just fruits and vegetables, but whole grains, nuts, and seeds.

Just like nature has a nice rhythm, putting your eating habits in a rhythm can really help stabilize your metabolic system which aids your mental makeup, improves memory and adds clarity to thinking.

Apart from a good diet one should do some research on fasting, as it is again something that can really add to the high energy levels and clarity, that a full time trader requires in his routine.

An healthy daily routine suggests a Good Sleep

Today, researchers are more deeply probing the cellular and subcellular effects of disrupted sleep, as well as the effects of sleep deprivation on metabolism, hormone regulation, and gene expression.

Newer studies are strengthening known and suspected relationships between inadequate sleep and a wide range of disorders, including hypertension, impaired immune functioning, cardiovascular disease, mood disorders, neurodegeneration, and even loneliness.

Nature tends to be very parsimonious in that it often uses a single system or biology in multiple ways to optimize the functioning of an organism.

We know, for example, that sleep is critical for waking cognition—that is, for the ability to think clearly, to be vigilant and alert, and sustain attention.

We also know that memories are consolidated during sleep, and that sleep serves a key role in emotional regulation.

More than anything, this is the key point of value for traders who want to be in the optimal state of mind while trading.

How much sleep is enough?

After decades of investigation, it appears that scientists have gathered enough evidence to begin to answer that question.

When duration of sleep drops below seven hours, and especially when it starts to move toward six and half hours or less, a number of different disorders begin to increase in prevalence.

Most experts would agree that there is a kind of sweet spot that most people should aim for, and for the average healthy adult that zone is ideally somewhere between 7 and 7 and a half hours.

That is what the consensus evaluations of more than a thousand scientific articles have yielded.

Here’s a few tips that can help you get a good night’s sleep.

  • Stick to a sleep schedule, even on weekends.
  • Practice a relaxing bedtime ritual.
  • Exercise daily.
  • Evaluate your bedroom to ensure ideal temperature, sound and light.
  • Sleep on a comfortable mattress and pillows.
  • Switch off your electronics.
  • Set an alarm to go to bed at the same time every day.

If you are always in a state of stress good sleep is much harder to attain.

Our next must have activity in your routine can help you in this.

Meditation to clear and quieten the mind

We cannot stress enough on the importance of including meditation in your daily routine.

It is one of the most under-rated tools that a trader can possess in his/her tool belt.

Mind you that this does not come easy but no good things were ever easy to attain.

If you are here and are striving to become a full time trader then we assume you are willing to work hard to do it.

There are many benefits of meditation.

Here’s 2 articles that we previously wrote which have a more in-depth analysis on how Meditation can help you improve your trading:

  1. How to Eliminate Fear and Greed from trading.
  2. The Most Powerful Tool To Become Successful

Meditation is proven to:

  • affect positively the brain structure,
  • regulate blood pressure and the heart,
  • slow rate of cellular aging,
  • stimulate the immune system,
  • increase gyrification which allows the brain to process information faster,
  • improve focus by stimulating regions of brain responsible of attention,
  • regulate the mood by boosting dopamine and serotonine,
  • reduce stress by downregulating pulse rate, blood pressure, and metabolism.

We remind you that as a trader if you don’t know your strengths and weaknesses and cannot play according to them, your learning curve to adjust to being full time will be much longer.

Connection with nature

We are living in a completely digitized world.

Many of us have more friends on the internet than we do in real life.

Our constant engagement with digital interfaces, disconnects us with the reality that we actually live in.

Constant exposure to wi-fi and bluetooth further damages our immune system and body cell structure.

We recommend some habits like growing your own plants and keeping them in your work environment, a walk in the park, playing a sport, running in a park or field, simply sitting in your garden on the grass or walking on it barefoot.

These are some activities that will help to ground you and reconnect you to your inherent nature.

Nature is a great tool to help us relax and feel emotionally stable..

In a fast paced trading environment and constant interaction with machines and AI this can have a calming effect on your mind and body.

Research indicates that grounding the body generates broad, beneficial, and significant physiological changes.

The source of these effects is believed to be the mobile electrons omnipresent on the surface of Earth, which are responsible for the planet’s negative charge.

Lifestyle changes have disconnected most humans from this primordial health and healing resource, creating what may be an unrecognized electron deficiency in the body.

When Earth connection is restored through grounding, electrons flood throughout the body, reducing inflammation and oxidative stress while also reinforcing the body’s own defense mechanisms.

And of course taking a break from sitting in front of the screen is an added benefit.

Tip: Get a standing desk for trading so you can avoid the drawbacks of sitting for multiple hours.

Positive Visualization and Gratitude to enhance your daily routine

There is a powerful law in physics to do with energy: Energy can never be created or destroyed.

This universal law gives us some insight into how our reality is created and how the future manifests.

It is understood amongst the Yogi’s of India that the dream state is no different than the waking state in terms of its properties.

Say that you are dreaming and in your dream you are walking down a dark road.

If it is you become lucid in that dream (i.e. You become aware that you are now dreaming) you suddenly decide you no longer want to walk and you should drive a car.

What happens?

Well because it’s a dream, the car manifests instantly and you are now enjoying driving this beautiful Lamborghini that you always wanted to own.

So the yogi’s say that the waking state is just like the dream state, in every sense of the word.

This does not mean that you think of a Lambo today and it instantly appears.

Why it doesn’t instantly appear is because the waking world is much denser than the world of light that your dreams are made of.

Wherein we have atoms and molecules, all these dense particles.

So in principle our thoughts have the same power as they do in our dreams but we need one other ingredient to manifest them.

This ingredient is more energy.

You want a Lambo you need money and then the energy to walk to a place that will sell you one.

This money is energy that has been collected from whatever activities it may be.

But it didn’t just land in your hands, you had to expend energy to attain it.

Think about it
.

Everything that you can see around you right now, the table the chair the computer, it had all been thought of by someone.

Then that thought manifested into reality by expending more energy towards the manifestation of that thought.

This is the key reason it’s a great habit to visualize a positive future for yourself everyday.

If you are visualizing that reality and also putting in the energy to move towards it, it is sure to manifest.

It is very important to not have any doubts.

Gratitude for the present and the past really energizes your future visualization so it’s a great hack for energizing manifestation.

Here’s a great study on the positive effects of Gratitude.

These habits are something that can really propel you to a successful and happy life.

You don’t need to do them all immediately or do them for many hours in a day.

But if you start small but truly and honestly begin to inculcate them, you will notice the difference in yourself and in your trading performance.

Good Luck!
